General Leasing Questions

Are laundry facilities located on-site?

Yes! Hale Mahana has a laundry room on EVERY floor.

 

Can additional furniture be brought into the apartment?

You are welcome to bring additional furniture with you, but don’t forget that all of our apartments are fully furnished. You are welcome to move the furniture around to best suit your preferences, however none of the furniture may be removed from the apartment.

Can I pay my bill with a credit card? Is there an extra charge?

Yes! View your balance, submit electronic check, or pay with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover from any computer or smartphone. Visit HaleMahana.com and click the “Resident Login” button. There is a 3 – 5 percent convenience fee to make payments with credit card, or $1.50 fee for eCheck.

Do I have a meal plan?

Meal plans are not offered at Hale Mahana. However, we have some great restaurants open on our ground floor, including: Pieology, Jersey Mike's, Starbucks, Raising Cane's and more coming soon!

Do you allow pets?

Hale Mahana is a pet friendly community! Permitted animals must weigh no more than 50 lbs., and aggressive breeds are not permitted. No more than one animal is permitted in a bedroom, and no more than two animals are permitted in an apartment.

How are roommates matched?

Roommates can be matched in a couple different ways – either you tell us who you want to live with, or if you don’t have roommates in mind, we are happy to do the matching for you! We look closely at the information both you and your potential roommates have provided in your application and on your roommate matching card and work to find people that have the same or similar preferences. Although we don’t guarantee a perfect match, you can rest assured that we do our best to find your perfect roommate.

How close to campus are you?

We are located less than a half mile from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and just under a mile from Chaminade University.

How do our rates compare to on-campus housing rates?

When comparing our rates to on-campus rates you must take into consideration many variables including having your own kitchen, floor plan layout, furniture (like full size beds), inclusive utilities (with electricity conservation cap), and community events. Our leasing staff is available to discuss with you how our rates compare to other housing options and validate that our community offers you a great location and incredible amenities.

How many people live there?

Every year the total number varies just slightly, but we have room for 589 residents.

If I pay in full, do I get a discount?

Hale Mahana does not offer discounts for rent paid in full. However, prepayment gives you the peace of mind knowing that your account is in good standing at all times!

If I'm over 21, do I need a guarantor?

If you do not have an approved guarantor, you must pay an $800 Security Deposit within 10 days of signing your lease.

Is parking available?

We have a limited amount of resident parking spaces available for cars/trucks and mopeds to lease on a first come, first served basis for a fee. Residents must register their vehicles with Hale Mahana.

What do I need to hook up my computer to the internet?

We have internet outlets in each bedroom and common area. Your computer must be configured properly for the internet to work, and your computer or device must be registered as an active device with our internet service provider. We also have community-wide WiFi.

What if I need to cancel my lease?

Leases are legal contracts for the specified term. Residents are responsible for the entire term of the lease. We offer lease re-assignments for a $200 fee. Please see a leasing professional for further details.

What is the cost?

What size are the beds?

Our bed sizes vary based on unit type selected. All rooms have either a Full, Full XL, or Twin XL bed. We suggest you bring queen-sized sheets if you have a Full or Full XL bed, which will work well instead of paying higher prices for “special” sized sheets. Many retailers offer bedding for Twin XL beds.

What types of leases are available?

We offer full year leases. Contact our office at 808-379-3248 for more information on dates and availability!

What utilities are included in my monthly installment?

ur rental package includes electricity (with electricity conservation cap), water, sewer, and trash. High-speed internet with community wide Wi-Fi is also included!

When do I put down a deposit?

If you do not have an approved guarantor, you must pay a security deposit of $800 within 10 days of signing your lease.

Will you send me a bill for each installment?

We do not send any invoices, but for your convenience, you can use our online resident portal to check your balance at any time. However, payment is due at the first (1st) of the month and is considered late after 10:00 AM on the third (3rd) day of the month.

When is my first payment due?

​The 15th of the month prior to your lease start date.
